Daniel's Story... Feb 11, 2011 ECH newsletter

What a fabulous week's it's been! Expect Miracles it says on our office door and this week has produced a big one! But first a personal invitation to a breakfast being held on February 20, 2011 should you wish to personally hear what the ECH is all about.

If you would like to hear more of the exciting things that are happening at the ECH, you are invited to a breakfast at Mountain View Lutheran Church Family Life Center on Sunday 2/20/2011. A free hot breakfast will be served continuously from 8:45 until 11:15am so just drop in when you can and listen to our line-up of ECH speakers. Feel free to stay for a service! The church is in Ahwatukee at 11002 South 48th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85044. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is expected to make a donation to ECH based on the donations received at the breakfast.

Now on to our miracles!

Daniel's Story

Daniel arrived in our office needing a birth certificate and as an afterthought wondered if we might be able to help him locate family. Deborah said she'd give it a try. The ECH has a peoplefinder's account for just such occasions and Deborah started plugging in the necessary information. She hit upon a name and birthdate which resonated with Daniel. He was fairly certain it was his sister whom he hadn't spoken with in nearly 20 years. Trepidatiously, Deborah placed the call. I was startled ( from 3 feet away!!) to hear a woman's voice emanate excitedly from the phone! It was Daniel's sister! Her excitement was so great that I could hear her from my desk! Tears! Smiles! From Deborah and Daniel and even though sight unseen, I am quite certain Daniel's sister was crying and smiling as well! After a few minutes of love and catching up, Deborah spoke with Gloria who told her that the family had been looking for Daniel and here, miracle of miracles, he just calls out of the blue! The family wants Daniel home and is making arrangements to do just that... bring him home.

Below is the email that Daniel's sister sent to Chaplain Dave and his response. We don't make the miracles happen; rather, we are so very blessed to watch them unfold right before our eyes! May God bless you this week as you go about your daily routine. Maybe you'll say a prayer for Daniel and the other lost souls like him... that they too can return home.

Dear Chaplain Dave:

Kudos to you and your staff for locating my brother. Thanks to the diligent work of your staff, they were able to locate me and connect me to my brother whom I have not seen in nearly twenty years! Truly if it were not for prayer and people like you who care, we'd all be doomed.

May God continue to bless and prosper the work you do that the ministry may continue.

Sincerely,
Gloria

Dear Gloria,

It was a pleasure to receive your note, and a pleasure to talk to you this morning. Mornings like yesterday carry us for a long while. We have signs on our windows that say, "Expect Miracles", and finding you was certainly one of those. We will continue to be of whatever help we can to Daniel. You may want to take a look at our web site, www.azhomeless.org. God bless you.
